A Window On Bentley's Backyard
Oil on linen
18" x 24"
Private Collection

This beautiful backyard is in Richmond, VA. I was drawn to the shapes of the stairs and the house, which gave me the feel of the backyard living so prevalent in this city. As I painted, I was joined by a small dog, Dudley (not the dog in the painting), who fell asleep at my feet as I worked. Bentley, the dog in the painting, then joined us to keep an eye on his buddy. It was a nice surprise, as he became the resting place for the viewers eyes after moving through the painting.

This painting was awarded Best In Show at the 2017 Plein Air Richmond Festival, the Best in Show at the November 2017 Gateway International Painting Competition, and is featured in the 2018 June/July issue of Plein Air Magazine, as part of a feature article on my journey as a plein air painter. I am also very honored that this painting was on the cover of the September 2018 issue of Southwest Art magazine.
